50,000 practitioners now on The PPR, reveals Healthcode

The Private Practice Register (The PPR) passed the 50,000 registrations milestone in July, making it the essential one-stop-shop for information about private healthcare practitioners working in the UK, with a major upgrade in progress.

Doctors and allied health professionals have joined The PPR in growing numbers since it was launched in 2016 by Healthcode, the online technology specialists for the private healthcare sector. The first five years saw 23,686 practitioners sign up, with another 26,867 joining them by July 2025. The top six practitioner roles represented on The PPR are: physiotherapist, surgeon, psychotherapist, psychologist, physician and anaesthetist. Allied health professionals comprise 60% of practitioners on The PPR while 40% are GMC-registered.

Having a profile on The PPR enables practitioners to securely store their practice details and documents in one place, making it easier to keep this up-to-date and share accurate information with private hospitals and insurers, when necessary, such as applying for recognition or ensuring organisations have the correct payment details. It’s also a unique marketing tool, enabling practitioners to display their credentials to those in a position to make referrals. Practitioners with a PPR profile can also link this to ICE, Healthcode’s online booking solution, so people searching for healthcare services can see their practice locations and specialties.

Healthcode are continuing to enhance practitioners’ experience of using The PPR with updates including a bright new user interface, the ability to add more details to a profile such as conditions treated, a new profile navigation menu, a profile progress bar and smart user tips.

In addition to supporting practitioners, The PPR has evolved into an information hub for the whole private healthcare sector which seamlessly connects practitioners, insurers and hospitals, paving the way for more effective information sharing and decision-making. Private hospitals can use The PPR to see data on their practitioner population and manage their details to streamline the invoicing process. Those subscribing to the paid version can also access enhanced information, including about their practitioners’ scope of practice and get push notifications when things change.

Healthcode are about to launch a powerful new hospital version of The PPR with a new look and advanced features.  Phase 1 includes a new user interface, a dashboard showing key insights and even better visibility of linked practitioners, including who does and doesn’t have a complete profile. The second phase will offer enhanced support for hospitals in managing practising privileges in alignment with the Medical Practitioners Assurance Framework (MPAF) to help them meet the CQC’s quality standards.

Healthcode Managing Director, Peter Connor commented: “Reaching 50,000 practitioner registrations is a resounding endorsement for The PPR and shows why it’s now an indispensable resource for the healthcare sector. I’m proud that The PPR has proved a big leap forward in delivering accurate and sharable data necessary for safe and high-quality healthcare but the best is yet to come.”
