Healthcode's NHS Code Toolkit provides an on-line web based facility for registered users to retrieve and translate clinical codes between the disparate standards deployed in the Public and Private sectors.
Purpose

The UK Public and Private sectors follow different standards for recording patient diagnosis and the medical procedures performed by the providers. Many providers now, however, treat patients funded both privately and by the NHS.

The NHS Toolkit allows these providers to work with the standard code sets with which they are familiar and then, when needed, translate them to the other standards they are required to comply with.

The toolkit will evolve over time to embrace the full suite of codes adopted within the NHS and automated conversion / brokerage services. The current release supports:

  • ICD9 - Retrieval
  • ICD10 - Retrieval
  • ICD9 <--> ICD10 Conversions
  • CCSD Retrieval
  • OPCS4.2 Retrieval
  • CCSD <--> OPCS4.2 Conversion
Deliverables

ICD9 – Retrieval

The system delivers a retrieval engine for ICD9 codes based on entry of the code or description. Search descriptions may be partial or complete and are deployed via a phonetic (metaphone) searching algorithm (which makes allowances for incorrect spellings.)

ICD10 – Retrieval

The ICD10 codes are retrieved in the same way described above for ICD9 (i.e. a metaphone algorithm has been employed).

The ICD10 codes and descriptions deployed are done so under licence from the NHS.

ICD9 – ICD10 Conversion

Retrieved ICD9 or 10 codes can be converted between the formats via Healthcode's deployment of ICD9 – ICD10 Translator Tables.

The ICD9 to ICD10 mappings deployed are done so under licence from the WHO.

CCSD Retrieval

The system delivers a retrieval engine for CCSD codes based on entry of the code or description. Search descriptions may be partial or complete and are deployed via a phonetic (metaphone) searching algorithm.

The CCSD codes and descriptions deployed are done so under licence from the CCSD.

OPCS4.2 Retrieval

The OPCS4.2 codes are retrieved in the same way described above for ICD codes.

The OPCS4.2 codes and descriptions deployed are done so under licence from the NHS and have been sourced directly from the NHSIA.

There is no hierarchy deployed for OPCS4.

CCSD – OPCS4.2 Conversion

Retrieved CCSD or OPCS4.2 codes can be converted between the formats via Healthcode's deployment of a procedure code translator table.

This mapping translation has been developed in-house by Healthcode in consultation with a leading private hospital group and is the copyright of Healthcode Ltd.

Futures

Healthcode is actively working with Private Providers and the NHS to further enhance these services. We are planning to broaden the service to allow automated generation of HRGs based on private sector data feeds and potential fully automated CDS production. Please contact us with an further enquiries regarding these services.

Disclaimers
