Healthcode, the specialists in online services for the private healthcare sector, has appointed the Medical Director of UK Health Aviva to be its new Chairman of the Board. Dr Doug Wright will work with Managing Director Peter Connor, to promote the more effective use of technology across the sector.
A member of the Healthcode Board since November 2014, Dr Wright succeeds Dave Clarke, the Operations Director of Axa PPP healthcare who retires after six years in the Chairman’s seat.
Peter Connor said: “Dave was a member of our Board since 2004 and I want to thank him for his commitment and expertise. In that time, Healthcode has made huge progress, from our beginnings as a medical billing company to offering a range of practice management, clinical coding and secure messaging services. Our ability to move forward and develop as a company is largely attributable to his leadership.
“As we continue to develop our online services, we are very fortunate to be gaining Dr Doug Wright, as our new Chairman. Doug has huge industry experience and it’s a great advantage for Healthcode to have someone of his knowledge and stature.”
A former GP, Dr Doug Wright joined Aviva (then Norwich Union Healthcare) 18 years ago from full time practice. He has held various roles within the Company, focused on claims management and clinical pathways before becoming Medical Director in 2012. In that role he has been responsible for ensuring that Aviva’s business decisions are informed by the clinical needs of its policy-holders and also led Aviva’s response to the Competition and Market Authority (CMA). Dr Wright was appointed as a non-executive director of Healthcode on 27th November 2014 and officially took over as chairman at the end of November 2016.
Dr Wright said: “I’m delighted to take over as Chairman of Healthcode at a time of great opportunity for the private healthcare sector. As I see it, Healthcode’s technology has an important part to play in connecting insurers and providers so they can operate more efficiently, securely and improve patient access to private health services. By working with Healthcode to realise its considerable potential, I believe the whole sector will feel the long-term benefits.”
